Richard’s Bio

Richard E. Simmons III received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of the South (Sewanee) in 1976. He later studied risk management and insurance at Georgia State prior to beginning a 25-year career with Hilb, Rogal, and Hamilton, a property and casualty insurance firm where he was CEO for 10 years.

Much of Simmons’ life has been devoted to giving back to the community by advising businessmen and professionals. Through these experiences, he discovered he had a calling for teaching and public speaking.

In December 2000 Simmons founded The Center for Executive Leadership, a not-for-profit, faith-based ministry located in Birmingham, Alabama. When he’s not spending time with his wife and three children, you will find him teaching, counseling, writing or speaking to groups across the country.

Richard Simmons III talk on A Life Of Excellence: Doing Business in the New Normal

Richard Simmons presents a well-organized, researched, and convincing case for another challenging topic in today’s society.  Thank you for speaking up on a difficult and very personal subject and giving us wonderful examples, vivid stories, and Biblical references that support what it really means to live a humble life.  I highly recommend this book to everyone – especially to those who find themselves leading others.
Jim Gorrie, CEO Brasfield & Gorrie

Richard Simmons’ latest effort provides provides a powerful reminder of the unavoidable perils and consequences of living for one’s own glory. But, his wise guidance goes further and offers the only sure antidote for the poison of pride.  Richard’s illuminating teaching provides the perspective necessary to enable one to realize the life intended by our Creator.  It is a very different life from the one we would experience if left to our own devices. I highly recommend this book.
W. Stancil Starnes, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, ProAssurance Corporation

Richard’s book makes a compelling argument that a leader’s most important quality is humility. He explains how there is strength in the humble life. This is a most enjoyable book!
Rob Burton, CEO Hoar Construction
This book cuts to the heart of how God intended us to live our lives. A must read for those who struggle with pride and an absolute must for those who don’t think they do.
