Sonburst Ministry
Todd is the founder of the Sonburst Coaching Ministry that helps tepid believers to become active disciples of Jesus Christ. Most of the participants involved in the ministry are executives, entrepreneurs and business owners.
Todd W. Liscomb joined The Center in August 2006 after spending 18 years in the banking industry. He began his career with Bank One in Columbus, Ohio in 1988 and transferred to Lexington, Kentucky in 1992. He joined Compass Bank in Birmingham in 1996 where he served as a relationship manager and Senior Vice President in the Corporate Banking division. Since 2006, Todd has been auditing divinity courses at Beeson Divinity school as the foundation for teaching, coaching and discipling men.
Purpose Statement
The objective of the ministry is to encourage men to discover, to engage and to abide in Christ. This is accomplished through individual coaching sessions and group Bible studies for business men.
Bible Studies
Facilitating a deeper understanding of the interpretation and application of the Gospel message through traditional exegesis including historical, geographic and literary context. Participant discussion on important spiritual truths identified in the Bible is essential to discipleship and spiritual development.
Studies are offered multiple times per week between August – June that last 50-60 minutes. The size of each group ranges from 6-14 men per session. Most sessions are presented at 200 Union Hill, Suite 300 in Birmingham. Participants also receive a weekly email summarizing the theme of the study and providing the text for the coming week. Most study series last between 4-12 weeks.
Studies are developed by Todd utilizing material from theologians from the list below. In the past two years, the study groups have studied the Gospel of Mark, Philippians, Ephesians, James, 1 Peter, 1 John and Acts. For the coming year, study topics will include Titus (4 weeks), Jesus in Genesis (8 weeks), Advent (4 weeks), Hebrews (11 weeks), the Resurrection (3 weeks) and Galatians (7 weeks).
The average participant is a member of a local church who is learning how to apply Biblical truth to life. Todd offers two groups for retired men, generally over the age of 72. He also offers six other studies open to men of all ages and denominations.
Coaching
Todd W. Liscomb founded the coaching practice to help men incorporate the truth of the Bible to all elements of life. The method of discipleship utilizes the Bible, a white board and personal meetings to seek the truth regarding marriage, parenting, stewardship, vocation, friendship, etc. Participants learn to apply the tools to live a disciplined life to enjoy and glory God forever, thru the power of the Holy Spirit.
The coaching process involves three stages:
1 – Foundation sessions (2-3) are to learn about the participant and develop objectives.
2 – Development sessions (2-5) are to create disciplines, grounded in Scripture.
3 – Accountability sessions are held monthly or quarterly to remain focused on the disciplines.
